1.2 Million Graco High Chairs Recalled

March 19th, 2010

Approximately 1.2 million Graco Harmony™ High Chairs are being recalled due to a fall hazard to children.  If your family has one of these chairs, you should stop using it immediately.

The screws holding the front legs of the chair can loosen and fall out.  Also, the plastic bracket on the back legs can crack, which causes the chair to become unstable and tip over.  The high chair, which was manufactured from November 2003 through December 2009, is no longer in production.

The chairs were sold for between $70 and $120 at Target, Target.com, Walmart, Walmart.com, Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Burlington Coat Factory, and other retailers from December 2003 to March 2010.

To order a free repair kit, call Graco toll-free at 877-842-3206 or visit gracobaby.com.

If your child has been injured while using one of these high chairs, contact the recalled baby products attorneys at Carr & Carr.  With offices in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, we can help determine what legal steps you should take.

Toyota Recalls 2.3 Million Cars Due To Sticking Accelerator Pedal

January 29th, 2010

Separate From On-Going Recall Involving
Floor Mat Pedal Entrapment Issue

Toyota has recalled approximately 2.3 million vehicles due to the dangerous possibility of sticking accelerator pedals. The problem can occur when the accelerator pedal becomes hard to depress, slow to return to idle, or mechanically stick in a partially depressed position, increasing the risk of a crash. Vehicles being recalled are:

• 2009-2010 RAV4
• 2009-2010 Corolla
• 2009-2010 Matrix
• 2005-2010 Avalon
• 2007-2010 Camry
• 2010 Highlander
• 2007-2010 Tundra
• 2008-2010 Sequoia

The condition can occur when the pedal mechanism becomes worn and, in certain conditions, the accelerator pedal may become harder to depress, slower to return or stuck in a partially depressed position.

In the event that a driver experiences this problem, the vehicle can be controlled with firm and steady application of the brakes. Brakes should not be pumped repeatedly because it could deplete vacuum assist, requiring stronger brake pedal pressure. The vehicle should be driven to the nearest safe location and the engine shut off.

This recall is in addition to the recall of approximately 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles to reduce the risk of pedal entrapment by incorrect or out of place accessory floor mats. Click here for details of the recall last fall.

Dorel Asia Recalls 635,000 Cribs That Pose Strangulation and Suffocation Hazards

January 22nd, 2010

One infant death and 10 injuries reported3-1 Convertible Crib - Natural Model # DAKM1615B3

Dorel Asia SRL is voluntary recalling cribs that pose strangulation and suffocation hazards to infants and toddlers.  All consumers, including those in Oklahoma, should immediately stop using the recalled cribs.  About 635,000 drop-side and non-drop side cribs are affected.  The cribs were sold for between $120 and $700 nationwide at Walmart, K-Mart and Sears from January 2005 through December 2009. If you have purchased any of these recalled products or have been injured by them, contact the Oklahoma crib lawyers at Carr and Carr Attorneys law firm.  Each lawyer will help you see if you can obtain compensation for either purchasing one of these recalled cribs or being injured while using the crib.

The drop-side hardware can fail, causing the drop side to detach from the crib. When the drop side detaches, it creates a space in which an infant or toddler can be trapped and suffocate or strangle. These cribs can also pose a serious entrapment and strangulation hazard when a slat is broken. This can occur while the crib is in use, in storage, being put together, taken apart or reassembled; or during shipping and handling.

The following Dorel Asia cribs are being recalled:

  • WM1633 (Drop side): 3-1 Sleigh Crib – Cherry
  • WM1633-0 (Drop side): 3-1 Sleigh Crib – Cherry (no castors)
  • WM1676BC (Fixed): 4-1 Bethany James Crib – Walnut
  • WM1676BCR-DC (Fixed): 2-1 Crib – Walnut
  • WM2163 (Fixed): 4-1 Crib – Manhattan Walnut
  • WM2163DC (Fixed): 4-1 Crib – Manhattan Walnut
  • WM1633-0-DC (Fixed): 3-1 Sleigh Crib (no castors)
  • GP004B3EGR (Drop side): 3-1 Convertible – Espresso

  • GP006BCWGR (Drop side: Single – White
  • DA1615B3 (Drop side): 3-1 Convertible Crib – Natural
  • DAKM5132 (Drop side): 3-1 Convertible Crib – White
  • DASE5005 (Drop side): Cottage Hill Single Crib – White
  • DASE5009 (Drop side): Vintage Estate 3-1 Sleigh Crib – Cherry
  • DA0504KMC-1N (Drop side): 3-1 Heritage Crib – Natural
  • DA0504KMC-1W (Drop side): 3-1 Heritage Crib – White
  • DA1614B3 (Drop side): 3-1 Lexington Crib – Cherry
  • DAKM5152 (Drop side): Single Jenny Lind Crib – Walnut
  • DASE5015 (Drop side): 3-1 Convertible – Toffee

Parents should not use any crib with missing, broken or loose parts. To help keep your crib sturdy, tighten its hardware from time to time. When using a drop-side crib, check to make sure the drop side or any other moving part operates smoothly. Always check all sides and corners of the crib for disengagement. Disengagements can create a gap and entrap a child. In addition, never try to repair any side of the crib, especially with duct tape, wire or rope.

The voluntary recall started in December 2009 and expanded in mid-January after consumers complained of stomach problems.  Many consumers said the pills had a musty or moldy smell.

McNeil Healthcare LLC, associated with Johnson & Johnson that manufactures Tylenol products, linked the problem to the presence of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisale (TBA), which results from the breakdown of a chemical in wood pallets used to transport and store packing materials for the drugs.

The company indicated in a statement that the musty-smelling chemical thought to be the cause of the sickness poses no risk to those who ingest it beyond the nausea, vomiting and other stomach problems that have been reported.

“The health effects of this chemical have not been well studied but no serious events have been documented in the medical literature,” the statement reads.

Oklahoma consumers who purchased the affected products should stop using them and contact McNeil to get a refund or a replacement. For information, visit www.mcneilproductrecall.com or call toll-free (888) 222-6036.

Millions of Fatal Cribs Recalled

December 1st, 2009

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced the largest crib recall in history–2.1 million Stork Craft drop-down cribs.

The recall was announced after it was discovered that the drop-down sides of the cribs became detached and dozens of babies became entrapped between the side and the crib frame, or fell out of the crib altogether.  So far, there have been 100 reported incidents of infants being caught between the drop-side and the mattress, 4 of which resulted in death.

However, not all drop-down models have been recalled–only those with plastic hardware and a one-hand system to drop the side rail.

If you or someone you love has been hurt by Stork Craft drop-down cribs, contact the Oklahoma Stork Craft drop-down cribs Lawyers today at Carr and Carr Attorneys.  We have handled product liability cases for over 36 years and would be glad to go over your potential case for you for free.
