Oklahoma Meridia Lawyer

On November 20, 2009, the FDA announced that the weight loss drug Meridia poses serious health risks to patients.  Each Oklahoma Meridia attorney at Carr & Carr Attorneys can assist you if you have been injured by taking Meridia.

Although some side effects such as headache, constipation, dry mouth, and insomnia are relatively benign, cases of strokes, heart attacks, heart valve damage and death are not uncommon.  So far there have been approximately 30 reported deaths by those who had used Meridia in the United States and hundreds of reported cases involving other side effects.  Meridia is available throughout Oklahoma in pharmacies.

Meridia was approved by the FDA in 1997 for the management of obesity and is marketed by Abbott Laboratories in the US.  Although some side effects such as headache, constipation, dry mouth and insomnia are relatively begign, cases of strokes, heart attachs, heart valve damage and death are not uncommon.   Recently released results from a study conducted by Abbott Laboratories and several different European administrativeagencies showed that 10,000 people who used Meridia had a higher likelihood of developing side effects than those who were given a placebo.

In January 2009, the Food and Drug Administration ordered that new warnings be placed on Meridia.  These warnings state that it should not be taken by those with heart failure, hypertension, irregualr heart beats, and other problems.   The European Medicines Agency issued a more forceful response, advising doctors to stop prescribing a European equivalent of Meridia.  Many experts are concerned that the dangerous side-effects of Meridia may cast doubt on the safety of other diet drugs.

If you or a loved one has suffered injury or death resulting from the use of Meridia, you should hire an Oklahoma Meridia lawyer as you may be entitled to compensation.  Please contact the experienced Oklahoma personal injury and defective drug lawyers at Carr & Carr Attorneys today.  Each Oklahoma attorney at Carr and Carr will be glad to assist you with your questions over the use of Meridia.  We have over 36 years of experience in helping injured people obtain the compensation and care they deserve.
