The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges parents to never place their baby in a Bumbo “Baby Sitter” baby seat on top of a table, counter top, chair or other raised surface. Babies from three to ten months old have fallen out of Bumbo seats and suffered injuries including skull fractures.
In October 2007, a voluntary recall was issued for about 1 million “Baby Sitter” seats from Bumbo International. The problem with this product is that when a baby in the chair arches his or her back, the baby can flip out of the seat and fall to the floor. Injuries can also occur if the baby leans forward or sideways or rocks side to side. If the chair is on a raised surface such as a table or counter top, the baby will likely fall to the floor and can be seriously injured. Reported injuries include broken bones, skull fractures and concussions.
Since the recall, the CPSC is aware of at least 45 accidents in which babies fell out of a Bumbo seat while it was on an elevated surface. Of those incidents, 17 infants suffered skull fractures.
Since 2003, approximately 3.85 million Bumbo seats have been sold in the United States. If you have a Bumbo baby seat, consider other options that might be safer for your baby.

Remember, there are specific time limits — called “statutes of limitations” — within which you must file a lawsuit to protect legal rights that you might have. If you want to preserve your rights, you must file a law suit against each person or company whom you might make a claim against before the time limits expire. Any person or company who is sued after these time deadlines will be able to have your claims dismissed. Because statutes of limitations vary from state to state, and depend on other important factors, you should talk with a lawyer at Carr & Carr Attorneys as soon as possible.
