Recalled: SunKids Convertible Cribs Pose Suffocation, Entrapment, & Falling Hazard
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Suntech Enterprises, announced a recall of Sunkids convertible cribs.
The sides of the crib are made of mesh that can expand, creating a gap between them and mattresses that remain unzipped. A child that slips into this gap can become entrapped and/or suffocate. Also, the crib’s drop side can fail to fully latch, posing a fall hazard for young children.
Although no injuries have been reported yet with this particular crib, the CSPC claims that in August 2008, a 5-month year old baby suffocated in another company’s nearly identical crib after becoming entrapped between the mattress and the mesh side.
Owners of SunKids convertible cribs should stop using them immediately and return them to the store they were purchased for a full refund.
