If your teenager has been abused by a teacher, pastor or counselor, contact Carr & Carr to talk with an attorney. You may have legal options that will benefit your family.

Recent news stories have again shown that people who have been entrusted with caring for our children do not always have the child’s best interests in mind.  As parents, we share our children with other adults who are supposed to be responsible and safe.  But sometimes, those who should help our vulnerable children end up causing problems.

A former teacher at Mounds schools and Sapulpa High School has been charged with lewd molestation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.  Tulsa Police tracked down Brent Deckard in Mexico City; he was extradited back to the United States and booked into Tulsa County Jail.  Court records show the teacher became friends with a former student.  The 14-year-old boy told police they would go back to Deckard’s home where the teenager was given prescription drugs and alcohol before being molested.

In another recent incident, an Oklahoma pastor was arrested after a 15-year-old girl reported he is the father of her child.  Gregory Ivan Hawkins is the 54-year-old pastor of Zion Fellowship Ministries and owner of Zion Child Care & Learning Center.  He has been charged with child sexual abuse.  He allegedly began a sexual relationship with the teenager in April 2012 when the girl was 14, according the his arrest report.  News stories cite the police report as stating the youngster had sex with Hawkins in multiple locations from April 2012 to January 2013, when she became pregnant with the pastor’s child.

In a related matter, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) is now investigating the Zion Child Care & Learning Center, owned by the pastor.  According to a Tulsa World article,  DHS has visited the child care center 13 times since July 2012.

The details of these cases are difficult for parents to hear.  Sex, drugs and alcohol should not be part of growing up, and especially not at the hand of teachers, pastors, counselors and other trusted adults.  If your family has experienced this type of trauma, please call Carr & Carr Attorneys to see if can assist you.  We have worked with families who have been involved in similar situations.  An experienced attorney who has helped other victims of child abuse can help guide you through this confusing and difficult time.  You may have legal options which can help pay for counseling and other ways to assist with healing.
