Defective Medical Devices

If you cannot view the above video, please read the transcript near the bottom of the page.

Medical devices save thousands of lives a year, and many people must use them on a continuous basis for years on end. Devices such as pacemakers, drug and coronary stents, and joint replacements give back a quality of life that many ill or injured people may not know without them. However, several medical devices may have defects that can cause more harm than good when used on medical patients.

Medical devices are considered defective when there is a design or manufacturing defect that makes them unreasonably dangerous. When a medical device is suspected of problems, it is up to the manufacturers and distributors to keep it from reaching the public, or to recall the faulty product. Unfortunately, most of the products that are found to be defective are recalled too late or not recalled at all.

When someone is injured because of a defect in a medical device, they deserve to be compensated. Damages you may be compensated for include economic, non-economic, and punitive. Economic damages may cover you or your loved ones for past and future medical expenses or earnings, while non-economic losses include pain, suffering, emotional distress, and other subjective areas. Punitive damages are awarded in cases where punishment is meted out for reckless or intentionally, or egregious, negligent behavior or actions.

Transcript Of Defective Medical Devices Video:

Hi, my name is Laurie Koller and I’m one of the lawyers at Carr & Carr.  Today I wanted to take a minute to talk to about defective medical devices.

Science has come a long way in providing medical devices for people who need them.  Unfortunately, lately it seems as if they’re testing these devices on actual live patients.  We have received many calls about people having problems with artificial knees, artificial hips, mesh used for problems such as bladder prolapse and hernia repairs, and similar types of medical devices.

If you or a family member have been injured by a medical device that was supposed to help you there may be things that we can do to assist.  Please give us a call, that’s Carr & Carr and our toll free number is 1-800-777-4878.  Thank you.
