Contigo recalls kids’ water bottles due to choking hazard
Contigo’s kids cleanable water bottles are a popular reusable drinking cup for young children. The clear silicone spout can detach, posing a choking hazard to children, and 5.7 million of the products have been recalled.
Only the black color spout base and spout cover models are included in this recall. This recall only involves Contigo® Kids Cleanable Water Bottle sold from April 2018 through June 2019. The water bottles come in three sizes (13-ounce, 14-ounce and 20-ounce) and multiple colors, materials and graphics. The bottles were sold individually as well as in two-packs and three-packs.
Contigo has received 149 reports of the spout detaching, including 18 spouts found in children’s mouths. These water bottles were sold at Costco, Walmart, Target and other stores nationwide. The recalled item was sold between April 2018 and June 2019 and the cost for each were between $9 and $24. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled water bottles, take them away from children and contact Contigo for inspection instructions and a free replacement lid.
